From my point of view, there are many key aspects of successful agricultural production, and here I mention what I consider to be the five pillars that support any agricultural production, being that if only one fails, various problems will arise that could affect all the other areas.
Organizational Structure
It is essential that the chain of command is clear to all workers, and key people must be placed in positions that require personnel management. The structure must also be reviewed annually to determine if any changes are needed in order to improve.
If you are not going to the field everyday and different people go for different things, you should start making notes on what is to be done or what is left. Sometimes, when we delegate the jobs to different people, some things are left out. For example, you can tell person to irrigate the field but he might leave some part for another shift. Now, it is your turn and you do not know what is left.
Crop Management
The most important thing is to know the fine points of the agronomic management of the variety that we have, since there are differences between one variety and another of the same crop. You also have to do small tests to keep improving, and you have to listen to everyone but pay attention to a few.
Only you can know what type of crop grows best in your field. You can factor in various things that affect the growth of the crop. Therefore, no one is going to or can do the research on the production of your field like you can or will.
Review of Finances
There are times when the highest priced products, although usually the best, are not the ideal solution. We must be aware that in financial terms, prevention is better than cure, and we must also analyze that much of the money earned is lost in details that go unnoticed.
If the production process take a lot of inputs and there is a risk of loss, it is better to look for alternatives that can give you better output with less inputs.
Handling People
Motivated workers can make a big difference, so you have to make it about your people and your people will make it about your harvest. Place empathetic and non-confrontational leaders, this way you will avoid a lot of problems derived from friction between people.
Research And Experimentation
In agriculture, doing the same thing will not always work forever, so you need to make certain changes to know where you can improve. Of course, carry out simple tests that do not involve great risks, but that give you some experience that you can extrapolate.
As we have already said, you can take help from other people but no one can understand your field like you can if you are willing to do a little research.
